January Newsletter

We're now past the holiday season but there's plenty of winter season left with (fingers crossed) more snow on the way! There are some exciting things happening at the Continental ski shop this month, including:

  • Here at the shop we've decided to take advantage of the new year and resolved to begin a monthly newsletter! In this newsletter we mean to provide you with information surrounding the present atmosphere of the shop, any notable events occurring in the area, any sales going on, as well as highlight some products that we are especially stoked about. You can find the updated newsletter on the homepage of our website.

  • We have added Classic fish scale Cross country skis, boots, and poles to our rental fleet! There are 10 pairs of skis available to rent with sizes ranging from small to x-large. You can rent a pair of skis along with appropriate boots and poles for a total of $25. Learn more

  • We will be closed January 10th and 11th for an inventory count. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will be happy to see you again starting on January 12th with our normal store hours (Tues-Sun 10am-6pm)!

Hartley Candlelight

Candlelight is back! This event is one of our favorite events of the year! We will be partnering with Hartley Nature Center, DXC, and COGGS to explore Hartley's trail system by candlelight.  Night-time in January may be cold and dark, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it!

Join us for a fun evening of skiing on luminary lit cross country ski trails, snowshoeing on a candlelit loop under the stars, or fat biking the trails by headlamp. Scenic 61 (by New Scenic Cafe) mobile kitchen will be serving up delicious food. Top it off with cocoa and snacks after you hit the trail, and you have the makings of a great Minnesota night. Adult skis, snowshoes, and fat bikes will be available for use (limited kids gear). Cost: $5 for HNC members and $15 for non-members. Ages 5 and under are free (must be accompanied by parent or guardian). Pre-registration is required. Register at the link below...

Product of the month

A fresh monthly selection of products that we are especially excited about!

Scarpa Quattro-4 SL Hybrid Boots

Its already been a stellar season for backcountry ski touring and we are only just getting started.  The massive early season snowfall has opened up terrain all over town and up the shore for skinning and exploring!  That's why we've been loving the new Scarpa Quattro-4 SL hybrid boots.  They ski nice and stiff like a traditional alpine boot but have a superb walk mode with a 61 degree Rang of Motion for all day comfort skinning and accessing backcountry terrain.  We've even had employees ride their bikes to the hill in them, not that we recommend that!

OAC Skinbased Backcountry skis

Have you ever been on your snowshoes stomping through the woods and wished that they could glide like a ski? Well these do just that! They float on deep power, glide like a ski, and climb hills like a mountain goat! And to boot, your standard winter boots fit just fine in the included universal binding. They are an excellent tool for backcountry/off-track exploration the north shore.  Check 'em out on the sales floor! We also have a similar product available in our rental fleet (the black diamond glidelite).

Race wax service

Do you have a race coming up? Or maybe you want to see just how fast your skis can go... or what you can do with no excuses about your dang skis having the wrong wax on them?? Head downstairs and ask the ski techs about treating your skis to a race wax service and they'll sort you out with a magical concoction of ski wax that's sure to have you flying past all your friends on the trails!
